The benefits of minimalism
Hey ya’ll seems like I’m getting closer and closer to the essence of minimalism month by month, just joking I simply just didn’t feel like posting anything as life is going well and being so much present since I’ve moved to Switzerland.
At the meantime I thought about writing an article about what minimalism brought to my life and what can bring to yours, also a gentle reminder to myself of the long way I’ve gone on this path, hands down no regrets.
Folks of reddit usually are very keen on looking for some sort of description of minimalism, rules, am I one or can I become one, what is that even mean? What can this thing bring to my life?
Well, it is understandable that people want a frame around the concept, I can relate to them, I also wanted to know what it takes, but its’s not that easy, let’s try to tackle it in the most simple way possible.
Minimalism is a design and also a lifestyle concept that focuses on simplicity and to remove excess. So what is simplicity and excess, well it varies by people to people, the best way to start is to figure out if it is something you think can add to your life, if so, than next thing is to focus on yourself and on your lifestyle, don’t fall into the trap of the online minimalists that show their aesthetically pleasing homes with blank white walls, furniture less setups or the radical ones with a backpack only in their possession, you do you, they started somewhere and you too.
So let’s break down first what it can bring;
Clarity and focus; Minimalism can help to eliminate distractions and allow you to focus on the truely important things in your life. By reducing physical and mental clutter, you can gain focus and clarity on your goals, relationships, career and personal growth.
Reduced stress; Minimalist lifestyle can significantly reduce stress. With fewer possessions and commitments, there’s less to maintain and worry about. Minimalism promotes a sense of calmness and tranquility by eliminating the constant need of acquisitions and management of material possessions.
Better organization and efficiency; Minimalism encourages organization and efficient use of space. By decluttering and organizing your living and working environment, you can find things easier, spend less time cleaning, can lead to less distractions and help boosting performance and focus.
Financial freedom; Minimalism can lead to improved financial well-being.By adopting a more mindful approach to spending and avoiding unnecessary purchases, you can save money, pay off debt and achieve financial freedom. Minimalism helps to shift the focus from material possessions to investments and experiences.
Increased creativity; A minimalist and clutter free environment can foster creativity. By simplifying your surroundings and removing distractions, you can enhance your focus and engage in deeper creative thinking. Minimalist design principles are often used in art, architecture and product design to highlight essential elements and evoke a sense of elegance.
Environmental sustainability; Minimalism aligns with sustainable living principles. By consuming less and being mindful of our ecological footprint, minimalists contribute to environmental sustainability. By reducing waste and avoiding excessive consumption, minimalism helps to protect the planet and its resources.
Enhanced well-being and contentment; Minimalism encourages gratitude and contentment with what you have. By valuing experiences and relationships over material possessions, you can cultivate a greater sense of well-being, happiness, and fulfillment in life.
So the benefits are there, the question is, is it something you should partake? I think yes, it is beneficial, the main thing is to do not go overboard with it.
Don’t try to imitate others, find your way and walk the path slow and steady, start with listing the things, material possessions you do not use, gift the items if you feel you’re not likely will use them ever again, if you can’t gift it to someone who could have a good use of it, donate it to a charity, make small changes, digitalize your documents, pay your bills online, setup a framework. Try to ask the question if you really need this item when going out and about to purchase something, if the answer is no, don’t buy it. When one item comes to your life part ways with another to keep your items the same.
Applying some simple changes you can get tremendous benefits that will improve your life.
The less is more
Yours sincerely
