Ecosia - the green search engine
It’s been a while since my last post, yeah we got into summer, I’d like to say that I was way too busy getting a tan instead of blogging, however that’s not the case, I’m still pale. Life caught upon me at work, also really got hooked up with the summer vibe in London, also travelled a bit and got lost in few books. About the books, in the end of the year I’m planning to write a summary article about my book reading challenge and how it went, so far keeping up with my initial plan of 2 books a month and I really feel it adds lots of value to my life.
Nevertheless I brought ya’ll Ecosia today a search engine which doesn’t cost you nothing at all but using 80% its revenues to plant trees across the globe. I already using it for a while now, I don’t even know how I didn’t share it with you before, but better later than never as the saying goes.

The extension is available in Safari but if you use any other platform Linux/Windows etc. you can reach it on www.ecosia.org and you can just keep up with your search as you’ve done so far, but you can have that good hearth warming feeling of a DOER.
The concept of Ecosia is pretty simple and amazing in a way, the concept is that you use Ecosia to search on the web and search ads generate income for Ecosia and they use 80% of this income to plant trees across the globe in countries such as Brazil, Nicaragua, Spain, Haiti, Morocco, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Madagascar, Peru and Colombia to fight against deforestation which is a major issue around the globe.
The rest of the 20% income they partly save for expanding Ecosia, to grow the business so for marketing purposes, they also use 100% renewable energy for their servers and the rest goes for salaries and saving for future projects.
That’s the look of the search engine, fair point for the designers, I like it.
Ecosia is transparent with its spendings, run the servers on renewable energy and they don’t sell us out, would be glad to see more companies ran their business on these sound principles.
I think the idea of Ecosia.org is amazing and shows that you can ran a profitable business on sound principles with contribution to the environment. This German start up has everything what it takes to be an example for every entrepreneur out there.
